Jak si jistě čtenáři všimli, jedná se o příspěvky, v nichž se spojují osobní zážitky, vnímání společnosti, historická ohlédnutí a především nadhled a životní moudrosti.

This book, Cities in Transition. Urban Governance in the Olomouc Region and Opole Voivodeship, is the result of a joint research project involving scholars from the Institute of Political Science of Opole University and from the Department of Politics and European Studies at Palacký University in Olomouc, who have a long standing interest in how Czech and Polish cities have been transformed during the past 25 years of economic, social and particularly political transition. The book was prepared with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic under the programme Czech-Polish Forum and the Regional Authority of the Olomouc Region. We hope that the book will be of interest to scholars, students and the general public in the Central European region and beyond. We hope it offers anyone interested in local politics a deeper understanding of the change in Silesian and Moravian cities after the transition to democracy and an overall understanding of the development of democratic governance in Central Europe.

Politické strany jsou integrální součástí zastupitelského modelu demokracie, v moderních demokraciích je těžké si představit existenci politiky bez stran. Aspirace této monografie je nabídnout pohled na problematiku výběru kandidátů (nejen) v ČR, který čtenáře nejprve seznámí se základními metodologickými přístupy, na základě kterých analyzujeme proces výběru kandidátů pro různé úrovně voleb.
